Motorised Roller Blinds in Camden — Schedule, Automate, Voice-Control
You know those windows you never open the blinds on because the cord is just out of reach? The cathedral ceiling window above the staircase. The void above the kitchen. The window behind the bath that you'd open if you could but you can't. Motorised roller blinds solve all of them.
Highland Shutters has been installing motorised roller blinds across Camden, Elderslie, Spring Farm, Narellan and Macarthur since 2016. We supply and install the Somfy and Alpha motor systems, both work-tested in Australian homes, both integrated with Google Home, Alexa and Apple HomeKit depending on the bridge you use.
What motorisation actually does for you
Most people think motorised blinds are a luxury item — a nice-to-have for techy households. They're not. The three reasons most of our Camden customers end up choosing motorised are:
-
Hard-to-reach windows. Cathedral voids, second-storey windows above the staircase, behind-bath windows. Cord-free electric operation makes these usable for the first time.
-
Privacy automation. Set the blinds to drop at sunset and rise at sunrise. Walk in at night already private. Wake up with the natural light. No thinking about it.
-
Glare and heat management. Western sun in Elderslie and Spring Farm is real. Set your blinds to drop automatically when the western light hits the back of your house.
Plus, for tech-curious households: voice control, app control, sun-tracking integration, scheduled scenes. We work with the major Australian smart-home ecosystems.
The two motor platforms we install:
Alpha motors
well-priced OPTION. Solid performance for typical roller blind use.
Best for: Mid-budget installs, simpler blends of motorised and manual in one home.
We'll suggest which platform fits your needs and budget when we visit. Both are fine choices — the question is usually how many windows you're automating and which features matter to you. Motors can be hardwire or battery and you can also motorise your outdoor blinds & curtains.
Somfy motors
Premium motorisation brand. Quiet, reliable, well-supported in Australia. Compatible with a wide range of integrations.
Best for: Whole-home automation, higher-budget installs, customers wanting long-term support and parts availability.
What can be automated
Most roller blind fabrics and colours work with motorisation. Same with the screen and sheer options. If you've got an unusual combination (very wide window, dual-roller system, very heavy fabric), we'll talk through what's possible.
Common motorisation configurations we install:
-
Single roller blind. Most common. One fabric, one motor, controlled together.
-
Dual roller. Day/night configuration with two fabrics on one window — sheer for daytime, blockout for night. Both motorised.
-
Linked groups. Multiple windows in the same room controlled together (one button drops the whole wall of blinds).
-
Smart-home integration. Somfy or Alpha connected to your Google Home, Alexa, or Apple HomeKit.
How much do motorised roller blinds cost?
Motorisation starts from as little as $370 per window - that includes battery motor, remote & charger.
We book a free in-home visit, measure every window, talk through which rooms really benefit from motorisation versus which can stay manual, and aim to send through an itemised quote within 24 hours. The big cost-saving move is to motorise only the windows that genuinely benefit. Don't motorise the guest-room window above the bed — motorise the staircase void and the two western-light bedrooms.
Humm90 finance is a strong fit for motorisation projects because the totals are higher than a single product. It spreads the cost weekly or fortnightly without interest.
Lead times
Motorised roller blinds typically run 3-4 weeks from measure to install. The motors and electronics come from Somfy or Alpha, both with Australian stockholdings.
